Most problems are simpler than they look.
If your garage door won’t open, the cause is often a flat battery, a remote issue, a power interruption or a safety system fault.
More serious problems such as broken springs, snapped cables or motor failures are less common but do occur.
Four quick checks.
Power
Check whether the opener has power and whether the circuit breaker has tripped.
Remote
Replace the battery or try a second remote if available.
Wall Control
Test the wall button to determine whether the issue is with the remote or opener.
Lock Mode
Some systems have a lock or vacation mode that disables remote operation.
What we see most often.
The most common causes behind a garage door that won’t open.
Flat Remote Battery
Still the most common culprit.
Lost Programming
Remote has lost communication with the opener.
Broken Spring
Door becomes difficult or impossible to lift.
Snapped Cable
Can prevent safe operation.
Motor Fault
The opener is no longer driving the door correctly.
Track Obstruction
Objects or debris preventing movement.

When to stop troubleshooting.
If the garage door feels unusually heavy, has a broken spring, damaged cable or appears off its tracks, stop operating it immediately.
Garage doors are under significant spring tension and attempting repairs without the correct tools can be dangerous.
When in doubt, disconnect the opener and have the system inspected before further use.
“If the door feels heavy or something looks out of place, leave it alone and call us. A quick inspection is always safer than forcing a door under tension.”
